Knollwood
Lake Forest, Illinois
The new picturesque Arts and Crafts style clubhouse of the Knollwood Country Club was designed by Pollock Dickerson Associates to complement the Club’s romantic landscape and outbuildings created at the turn of the 20th century by one of Chicago’s most prominent architects of the time, Howard Van Doren Shaw.
The new clubhouse was planned in the spirit of the great Lake Forest private estates of the early 2oth century which still surround the club property. The new 56,000-sf clubhouse and supporting grounds includes a formal landscaped entry lawn and porte cochere, an expanded banquet facilities and events lawn, family and formal dining areas, formal and 19th hole bar lounge, upper level locker room areas, and lower level guest rooms, and service areas. A screened summer living room and dining space, wine cave and tasting room, are a few of the unique amenities featured in the new clubhouse design. Pollock Dickerson Associates developed the final design in coordination with the City of Lake Forest Historic Preservation Commission to ensure the new work preserved the historic outbuildings buildings, gardens and streetscapes as well as the overall historic character of the Knollwood community.
